One last word…

October 17th, 2005

I find it funny, I've done it…

But to post a blog entry to say you are taking a break from blogging for a few days, weeks, unknown…

Kind of like the silent game as a kid.. Need to squeeze in that one last word before it actually begins…

Mr. Campbell…

October 17th, 2005

Saturday morning I was able to get out and play some golf with 2 friends from the club, Matt and Gary… We were the first time and played fairly quickly and got back to the clubhouse in time to eat some popcorn and watch the 1st half of the Gopher football game…

Out on the course I was walking in the rough looking for my ball and an old friend pulled up to me on his cart, Mr. Campbell… He must be in his mid to late 80's I think, maybe older, but acts a bunch younger than he looks.

I think I met Mr. Campbell back in the mid-80s as a 5 or 6 year old. He was currently the president of the club and I thought he was kind of a big deal, until later on I realized every year there is a new president of the club. But since that day, he has always gone out of his way to talk to me, say hi, see how I am doing, give me encouragement, and just be a smiling face at that moment.

Our quick 2 minute exchange Saturday wasn't anything out of the ordinary, but reminded me of how I need to be/interact with everybody. It reminded me of how Jesus would break from his current routine to talk to people, Zaccheus, the Woman at the well…

St. Francis & Bizzy Bone

October 11th, 2005

"You hit them with that, they be like, 'This mutha—-a is kinda crazy but he keeps on talking about Jesus! He keeps on talking about the Lord!' "
(Bizzy Bones recalled about speaking in tongues on KPFT-FM)

Cool story about Bizzy Bone and his walking days of giving away all of his money and living homeless for 7 months. And how like many stories of meeting Jesus, flips your life upside down in ways people dont understand…

Not even his mother…

Life intern update…

October 11th, 2005

Just some clarifications here…

This is not a cry out for a wife, I am not swamped to the point of not having any time for myself and to fit everything in during my days. It is simply an offer for somebody to gather some experience and to make my life a little more manageable…

An added benefit: You may have the option to live with me. I am currently searching for another roommate, as my California pal Parker has left back to the beaches of So-Cal. You may also want to live with me and decide later on that being my life intern isnt such a bad idea and you are up for it!

Response Recap:
Dena has offered to be my "laundry hag" (her words)

Dena, sounds like you are the only ambitious one out there!!!

Life intern: Job Opening…

October 10th, 2005

I have come to the conclusion that I need a life intern. Somebody to handle the small stuff, Home Depot runs for contractor bags, grocery store runs for burgers and brats, or to get buns when I forget. To do my laundry that gets behind schedule and piles up. And all sorts of other areas that I need help with. And more than that, somebody to be at my side and encourage and keep my spirits up and just have a smile on their face because they are with me.

I could combine this job description with the other responsibilities I am looking for in a "Life Caddy"

My caddy would be responsible for second guessing each move to make sure I do things right, maybe look at things from a different angle. Tell me to play it safe when I want to go for it, maybe give me the encouragement to go for it when I choose to play it safe.

So if there is anybody out there in school still or out of school and looking for a great resume builder and a great experience helping me through life, I will be accepting resumes at ethan@livingrarefied.com. I can promise you will have grown in your character after spending some time working with me. It is more of a partnership and not a situation where you are working "for" me, but rather with me.

Requirements:

  • 10 hours per week
  • good communication skills
  • at least 30 jokes on hand in case I need some comedy
  • typing skills: at least 5 words per minute (not too much writing required, so I don't care if you are a search and pecker)
  • attend weekly status meetings and quarterly intern reviews
  • can do attitude
  • work well in teams
  • experience with Microsoft Excel and dating advice a plus!
  • ability to relocate near St Louis Park, MN also a huge plus!

Benefits:

  • no healthcare/daycare/elderlycare plans in place
  • a lot of fun and good people to be working with
  • occasional free meal
  • great resume builder
  • experience working at an unregistered non-profit
  • great conversation starter when people ask what you do
  • strong references available for your next employer
  • no W2 forms to hassle with during tax season, as it is a non-paying internship, one of those to get you some experience

I do realize you may be laughing right now, but I do see this as a serious matter and a journey I am willing to pursue should there be interest on your end.

Jackhammers are cool…

October 6th, 2005

I got to rip apart a hole in my basement last night. Adding a bathroom down there and I am saving some money by doing the demolition work and cleanup myself.

It is truly amazing what a 60 pound tool can do in 2 hours! It is also amazing that I only did the area I needed to because it was so fun and I wanted to jack more holes!!!
